Timothy Hallinan was born in in Los Angeles, California. Hallinan attended UCLA and the California State University system during the sixties. For awhile he lived in a shack with a woman in Echo Park while attending college. He became heavily involved with a class of poet-musicians in the all-night scene in places like the Troubadour.
